The Warriors win the NBA Finals! Join the victory parade

For the 4th time in 8 years, our Golden State Warriors are the NBA champions, beating the Celtics in game 6 on Thursday in Boston. The Warriors will be celebrating their NBA Finals win with a parade on Monday, June 20th from 11:20 AM to 2 PM on Market St. The route goes from Market & Main to Market & 6th. Info here.

Mayor Breed and Supervisor Dorsey endorse GrowSF’s pro-housing ballot measure

Mayor London Breed, Supervisor Matt Dorsey, and District 4 Supervisor candidate Joel Engardio endorsed a pro-housing ballot measure Thursday morning. The Nor Cal Carpenters Union and Habitat for Humanity both support the measure as well.

The Affordable Homes Now measure would “cut several years off the approval timeline for qualifying housing projects that are 100% affordable, are for teachers or are mostly market-rate but have 15% more below-market rate units than the city would otherwise require under affordability mandates.”

GrowSF is running this ballot measure alongside the Housing Action Coalition, SPUR, SF YIMBY, Habitat for Humanity, the Nor Cal Carpenters Union, and Greenbelt Alliance. Read more at affordablehomesnow.org.

Celebrate San Francisco’s first official Juneteenth

SF is hosting a number of exciting events this weekend to commemorate Juneteenth (which has the actual anniversary of June 19th). Juneteenth is a celebration of the emancipation of all enslaved people on June 19, 1865.

Events include a Freedom Celebration on Fillmore Street, free admission at the Museum of the African Diaspora, and jazz performances at Golden Gate Park. Learn more about these, and many other exciting events from the SF Examiner!

Governor Newsom says Boudin Recall was “predictable”

In an interview with Fox 11 Los Angeles Governor Newsom said that the recall of District Attorney Chesa Boudin was “predictable, particularly after the school board recall. Nothing about that was surprising. [...] The issue in San Francisco in particular is people want the streets cleaned up. Period, full stop, enough. They want the streets cleaned up."

NIMBYs, Republicans, and many Democrats have been selling a sad politics of scarcity in a world that’s happily positive-sum. And when government is made to be ineffective it becomes entirely rational for factions to warp government towards their own self-interest.
For California to show that abundance is the answer — abundant housing, energy, and economic opportunity — government must be made effective. The only antidote to self-interested, zero-sum politics that leads to nihilism is to prove government actually works.
