The GrowSF Report: Read our Mayoral Endorsements
PLUS: And don't miss our Board of Supervisors endorsements!
Rank all three: Mark Farrell, London Breed, and Daniel Lurie
In the November 2024 election we have three good choices for Mayor, and lots of bad ones. An astounding 13 people are running for the top spot in City Hall! No candidate will win on first-place votes alone, so a solid ranked choice strategy is critical. And remember: your second and third choice votes do not hurt your first choice.
So GrowSF recommends voting for Daniel Lurie, Mark Farrell, and London Breed in any order you choose.
We believe all of these candidates will do a good job with a newly elected Board of Supervisors. All three put forward platforms that focus on building more homes, revitalizing downtown, and improving public safety. They all have relevant experience in government or the private sector, and they share a philosophy on government: that City Hall should be efficient, effective, and accountable.
The differences between them are relatively small, which means that a one-size-fits-all recommendation is more difficult to do than normal. It's absolutely critical that you rank all three of them in some order, but within that, you should make a ranking based on the issues that matter most to you. If you're in a hurry, here's a quick summary:
If your top issue is homelessness, vote: Daniel Lurie as your first choice.
If your top issue is public safety, vote: Mark Farrell as your first choice.
If your top issue is housing, vote: London Breed as your first choice.

Board of Supervisors Endorsements
No incumbents, it’s time for change.
For District 1 Supervisor, we’re endorsing Marjan Philhour for her deep commitment to addressing SF’s public safety challenges and helping small businesses thrive.
For District 3 Supervisor, we’re endorsing Danny Sauter. He has a deep connection to the neighborhood and will advocate for effective measures to deal with crime, drug dealing, homelessness, and housing affordability.
For District 5 Supervisor, we’re endorsing Bilal Mahmood. Bilal will prioritize public safety and affordable housing, will ensure that the streets and sidewalks are clean, and that the fentanyl markets get shut down.
For District 7 Supervisor, we’re endorsing Matt Boschetto. He will bring a practical and committed approach to public safety, financial accountability in City Hall, and small business support.
For District 9 Supervisor, we’re endorsing Trevor Chandler. He supports building homes for all, arresting fentanyl dealers, and ensuring people suffering from drug addiction and mental health crises get the help they need.
For District 11 Supervisor, we’re endorsing Michael Lai. He supports a fully staffed and accountable police department, comprehensive solutions to homelessness, and building homes at all incomes so everyone has a place to call home.

Bombay Brasserie: Indian- and French-influenced cuisine comes to Union Square
Union Square got some good news on Friday: Taj Hotels launched its new restaurant in the space previously occupied by the Michelin-starred Campton Place.
Bombay Brasserie features plates from many backgrounds, including Bengal, Gujarat, and Goa, along with touches from Portuguese and Parsi flavors. The restaurant first gained attention in London for its modern interpretations of classic Indian dishes, and we’ve since seen it in Cape Town, Singapore, and Dubai.

What we’re writing about
Burning Man turns to DJs to sell tickets
For the first time in 13 years, Burning Man hasn’t sold out. There are so many tickets available that many sellers are having trouble unloading them at face value, with many selling for less than half what they paid. Now they want DJs to pick up the slack, but no one buying it. Has Burning Man lost its spark?
Slice, slice baby: SF’s pizza, bagel, & beer festival raises the dough
What happens to a person when they eat unlimited amounts of delicious pizza? Is it possible to experience a pizza blackout?
These thoughts abound after eating five, maybe six, pizza slices in the 15 minutes since my arrival at the San Francisco Pizza, Bagel, & Beer Festival. It’s 11:30 am, and we have been looking forward to this moment, a giant pizza party in North Beach, for weeks. With over 65 local pizzerias, balgelries, and breweries, the second annual event is a spectacular success.
Drag queens and murder: ‘Death Drop Gorgeous’ comes to SF’s Roxie
“Death Drop Gorgeous” is a whodunit with no real clues and only a smattering of suspense, though the killer’s reveal and the final showdown do offer some thrills. What we loved was its unapologetic campiness, but we wanted the envelope pushed a bit. As a masked maniac slaughter young men and drain them of blood, it felt like the whole thing served us a gay Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
