Here’s what happened around the city for the week of November 7, 2022:
- There was an election! And results are looking very, very good
Common sense is coming back to San Francisco
You may have noticed — we had an election on Tuesday! Although we’re still waiting for the final results (195,327 ballots have been counted, with approximately 110,000 remaining), we already have a lot to celebrate!
🚴 Prop J passes with over 60%
Thanks to the hard work of the Prop J team (combined with GrowSF’s support), we all get to continue enjoying car free JFK in Golden Gate Park. If you haven’t checked it out lately, go now! It’s super cool with a beer garden, pianos, and even a whale sculpture.
Go for a walk, go for a run, go for a bike ride, go for a coffee or a beer. Just go!
🌲 Prop I voted down!
More than 60% of voters agreed that Prop I would put San Francisco on the wrong track. We were proud to help defeat Prop I which would have cost taxpayers an extra $80 million to move sand and would also go against the popular compromise to allow cars on the Great Highway during the week and to make it a public park on weekends.
🚍 Prop L looks likely to pass
This is great news for public transportation in San Francisco! It is not a new tax, just renews an existing tax so Muni can do necessary maintenance, invest in long-term projects, and improve the level of existing service.
🏘️ 🤷 Prop D is too close to call and Prop E fails
We still hope that the final results will push Prop D to a Yes, but it’s too close to call. Sadly, the tactic by the anti-housing Board of Supervisors to confused voters with a competing measure might have succeeded in sinking Prop D.
But the good news is that Prop E failed with 55% of voters voting NO. Voters saw through the lies and gave a resounding no.
And more good news: if Joel Engardio holds on to his victory, we might have enough pro-housing Supervisors to legislate streamlining for home builders instead of bringing everything to the ballot for voters to decide. And the Supervisor races are looking good!
Here’s where we stand on candidates:
🌇 District 4 (Sunset) Supervisor: too close to call, but Engardio is ahead
Joel Engardio is in the lead! With every update, Joel’s lead increases. Joel ran an amazing and clean campaign. We are so proud of the work that he and his team did—and we are confident that Joel will maintain his lead, make history as the first person to unseat an elected incumbent in over 20 years, and WIN this race!
🏙️ District 6 (SOMA) looks like a win for Matt Dorsey
Matt Dorsey is leading with 56% of the vote! Voters clearly aligned with Mayor Breed’s appointee. Supervisor Dorsey takes crime, addiction, and the sad state of the streets seriously. He will continue to be a great moderate voice on the Board of Supervisors.
⛵ District 2 and 🏳️🌈 District 8 are locked in
Congratulations to Supervisors Catherine Stefani and Rafael Mandelman for their reelection victories!
⚖️ District Attorney looks like a win for Jenkins
Brooke Jenkins is leading with 55% of the vote! Brooke Jenkins will continue to send a message that we won’t tolerate crime any more.
🎒 Board of Education is a win
All three of Mayor Breed’s appointees, following the school board recall earlier this year, are poised to win. Lainie Motamedi and Lisa Weissman-Ward have a very strong lead. Ann Hsu’s lead is smaller, but we’re hoping she can maintain it through the final results. This is a win for San Francisco kids!

The Asian Art Museum, Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art have announced the creation of the San Francisco Free Museum Weekend, which will feature 21 organizations over the weekend of Dec. 3 and 4.
